Did my mom just gave me permission to use the F word? If you're keeping track, I'm 32 and so far I've won the battle over socially acceptable facial piercing and now, appropriate cussing. YES! Fist pumps! The ground is slooooooowly being laid for tattoos, which at this point, will apparently get me disinherited. And since I like money more than I like body modification, we'll call it even.
I'm thankful it's Thursday. Friday is my favourite day of the week. It's generally a slow day at work, with people calling it quits around noon, so unless I've left something until last minute, I can usually get away with the same. Friday holds so much promise....
This weekend we're going to a friend's 40th birthday party. That really trips me out, that I have a friend who is 40 (no offence to the 40 year old, who is one of the best dudes I know). However, I remember attending my dad's 40th, complete with all the standard "Over The Hill" jokes. I remember what dress I wore, and some of the gag gifts he got. It seems so long ago, and yet some of the memories are fresh. That purple party dress was pretty dope.
Age is a funny thing. Someone once said, "today is the oldest you've ever been, and the youngest you'll ever be again."
What?
Think about it. What "Anonymous" was saying all those years ago is to live in the moment. Enjoy every day like it's your first AND last day. Look at the world around you with wonder, and appreciate ALL that you have in that moment. Don't regret the past, and don't fear the future. You are here, now. Take it in. Feel the beat of your heart, the wind in your hair and know that you'll always be alive in this moment.
Be at peace with yourself. Easier said than done? Then something to work on.
We all need something to work on. For me, right now, that "something" is knitting. And, four classes in at the senior's centre (where else?), I am loving it. It's cathartic. I can rock a garter stitch and a purl stitch like your mom could, except we're learning it Continental style, which is more efficient. And, even though my hands feel super special needs when I am purling, it actually is amazing how muscle memory works. I'm kiiiiiiind of impressed with myself. SCARVES FOR EVERYONE!
| Not too shabby, though that colour is starting to make me crazy. |
And the beat goes on.
