Dear Dinner Carbs...Part 2.

Um...so....remember this grand little statement from last week? I was SO going to stop eating carbs after 5 pm. That SO did not happen. At all. On any day. Even on the day I declared it so.

I blame the snow. It got cold and I felt compelled to continue layering on the carbolicious layers of fat I would need to be able to stay warm while playing in the snow. I blame laziness too, as I just couldn't make myself go to the grocery store. We ate out last week. We ate random things in our cupboards. We ate. And ate. And ate. And I only did yoga once. And I only ran around in the snow a couple times. I did not burn more calories than I consumed last week. The crispy pork shoulder that I ate at Zambri's (and then ate the rest of for breakfast the next day), totally did not help my cause. Key words: "Crispy" (and delicious).

I also basically slothed around my house this weekend. I wanted to get outside and go for a long walk, or a hike, but the weather was not cooperating. So other than a little minor Saturday morning yoga session with myself, I essentially did nothing except move from various seats and couches at our house and our friends houses and masticated.

So what? There's always this week.

So far, so good. I know. It's only lunch time on Monday, but things are going good. I've been tracking my foods on my iPhone, via the Lose It! App. It's an easy way to set a weight goal for yourself and then try and stick within your daily caloric intake. I am allowed just over 1600 calories a day, so that shouldn't be too hard. I am not really one to diet, but it's become clear to me that I absolutely NEED to track my intake, because I have no idea about how much I eat, or what kind of value I'm getting from it.

Breakfast today:
1/2 cup of Bob's Red Mill Oats
1 tbsp of Skippy Natural PB
1/4 cup of Unsweetened almond milk
1/2 small organic Banana
= 457 calories

Green tea = 0 calories (yay for green tea!)

Lunch Today:
California Roll, 6 pieces (wouldn't normally eat this, but it's from Thrifty's and they are limited)
2 pieces of Salmon nigiri
Soy Green tea latte
= 632 (this would have been MUCH better without the green tea latte I had on my coffee date with my dad, which was 270 calories alone! Thanks a lot, Starbucks! I'll be sticking to tea from now on!)

This leaves me with about 653 calories for the rest of the day. I'll be filling in the blanks with lots of lemon water, maybe an apple to snack on (95 calories). Dinner is going to be homemade beef stew, which will be about 250 calories or so for one serving. Based on this estimation, I should be well within my caloric range for the day, with room for some dark chocolate for dessert. We'll see.

I also had a GREAT yoga class this morning, which you can also track in the app. So far this Monday has been great for my body AND mind. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and everything is a-ok.

Mindful living is what I set out to do this week - what I put in my body, how I use my body, and how I treat my mind. Get out and enjoy the sunshine while it's here, YYJ!
